Solvent-Free Oil Stain Removers
Solvent-free oil stain removers do not dissolve the oil, they emulsify it. That usually means more time or a higher temperature than a solvent-based product needs, and in return no organic solvent load reaches the effluent.
How does a solvent-free product lift oil?
The mechanism is emulsification. Surfactant adsorbs onto the oil droplet, breaks it into smaller droplets and holds each one suspended in the water phase. Mechanical action speeds that break-up, which makes machine circulation part of the recipe.
What is missing without a solvent is the step that drops the oil's viscosity. Temperature stands in for it: as the oil warms it flows more freely and emulsifies more readily. In practice the trade is straightforward. What a solvent product achieves quickly, a solvent-free product achieves over a longer time or at a higher temperature.
Where is it enough, and where not?
The range it covers is wide: spin finish, lubricating oil, fresh machine oil marks and handling soil all come out with a solvent-free product.
The limit appears with heavy, aged soil. Grease that has sat and oxidised, and cured silicone, are slow to emulsify. At that point you either move to a solvent product or you stop the soil from ageing by treating it as soon as it is spotted. The second route costs less, and it depends on how early quality control catches the mark.
Why are mills moving this way?
Three separate pressures push in the same direction.
In effluent, organic solvent adds load to biological treatment and raises COD. In safety, low flash point products need separate storage and ventilation. On the customer side, brand restricted substance lists limit particular solvent groups.
None of this removes solvent products from the plant; it narrows them to heavy soil. For routine washing, solvent-free has become the default.
How does it fit into the recipe?
A solvent-free stain remover normally goes into the pre-wash bath ahead of dyeing. A sequestering agent and a wetting agent commonly sit in the same bath; the sequestering agent is not left out, because emulsion stability falls in hard water.
The bath is dropped hot and followed by a hot rinse. As an emulsion cools, part of it loses stability and the released oil settles back onto the fabric; dropping hot avoids that. Recommended bath conditions for the Derin Kimya products are given on the product pages: pending from the client.

Products
- DK LYS
Solvent-free oil stain remover that emulsifies oil instead of dissolving it, adding no solvent load to effluent.
- DK LYS MOD
Modified solvent-free stain remover with higher emulsifying power, the second grade that works in less time.
- DK WASH N 40
Solvent-free stain remover and washing agent combining oil stain removal with general washing in one bath.
Common questions
Is solvent-free weaker than solvent-based?
Slower rather than weaker. The same soil usually comes out, with time or temperature turned up. On residues that genuinely need dissolving, such as cured silicone, there is a real performance gap.
Can it run in the dye bath itself?
As a rule it goes in a separate bath. Its surfactants can retard dye exhaustion, and keeping the released oil in the same liquor as the dye leaves the staining risk in place.
What does it change in the effluent?
The solvent-derived organic load disappears. Surfactant load remains, so COD does not go to zero; what falls is the volatile organic fraction and the solvent that burdens treatment.
